The Berlin show tonight was good. There applause for an encore, but we played all the songs we knew during the set, so it was suggested that we do an impromptu dj set. I played a few songs from my ipod and we called it a night. It wasn´t until after the show, back at our hotel, when the random fun occurred.

We wondered down the street, trying to fine a place to get some food or drinks, when we happened upon two Berlin men about town, and on the sidewalk on the street in front of their art studio. We chatted and ended up hanging out on on their sidewalk for a couple of hrs. They asked what type of music influenced our band, and I began talking about about all the German music that I have liked over the years. I mentioned what a huge influence Jaki Liebezeit was on me, and it turns out that one of them had jammed with Jaki and Damo Suzki a few times. We got to chatting and he told me about his life. He plays music and makes art. He has a daughter who is in a German hardcore/punk band now, and her mother also plays in a hardcore band. His name is Stefan Branca. He has a long beard, and is currently two years deep into a photo project about all the different beard types in history. It seemed that there had been many different stages of his own beardy development. Sadly, I didn´t have my camera at hand. It was one of those moments when you´re beyond grateful to have said hello to a stranger in your temporary neighborhood.

I live in New York. I drum & write music.
